Machine translation editing | How and why?
Our clients are requesting the Machine Translation Editing service more and more often.
Also called Post-edit, it is a process in which linguists correct a machine-produced translation to achieve a satisfactory end product.
The concept of this type of service is associated with pre-editing. The best machine translation results can be obtained if the text to be translated is pre-edited by applying the principles of the so-called controlled natural language.
Although the translation quality is often surprisingly high, it always requires a human to correct the mistakes. This is because no matter how advanced technology is, in particular machine translation systems, good translation is more of an art form and as such it cannot rely entirely on the machine.
Types of machine translation editing
In general, there are two types of machine translation editing – light and full. The main goal of the editor during light editing is to clear the text conversion from severe semantic errors, while during full editing, as the name suggests, a full editing is carried out - any errors in the language and meaning are fixed, the text's nuances and even wordplay are added.
For us at Nova Translate, one of the core values embedded in our company culture is the pursuit of innovation, making every effort to keep up with the modern world. As part of these efforts, we offer the machine translation editing service.
The work process we have adopted to perform this service is as follows: We receive the produced machine translation in a CAT tool or exported text file (.doc, .docx, etc.), our customer indicates the degree of editing expected for the specific project, and the text is forwarded to a linguist for editing. If the customer requires it, the edited text can be send for a final review by a second linguist.
We have already completed many similar projects and we will be happy to complete yours as well!
